Reuters Admits It Has No Idea What Happened In Australia Today, Publishes Headline Anyway
Global news agency Reuters published what sources describe as 'technically a headline' on Thursday, informing readers that Australia exists and that things may or may not have occurred there recently. The page, titled 'Australia News | Today's Latest Stories,' reportedly met the minimum legal threshold for journalism in 14 jurisdictions. A Reuters editor confirmed the team had considered adding specifics but ultimately decided against it. 'We felt that naming an actual event would be editorializing,' said a spokesperson. 'By keeping it broad, we let the reader project whatever crisis they're most anxious about onto the continent.' Internal analytics showed the page performing identically to more detailed coverage, with an average visit duration of 1.3 seconds. The agency is reportedly exploring a similar approach for all regions, with 'Earth News | Some Of It' expected to launch in Q4.
